The Countdown to 2010 - Something New

Dear YY n NN n DD
We did something new on the last day of the year.
Instead of our usual 54321, Happy New Year, followed by Goodnite, (on some years you 3 didn't even get to the countdown part before drifting off to dreamland), Papa and Mummy brought you to the heart of the city for some live fireworks display.
Despite the crowd and sleepiness, the 10min display was well worth the wait.
YY n NN, you 2 were so happy and declared that you wanna see it again next year!
DD, even though you were quite scared for awhile because of the loud noise, you also agreed with Mummy that it was pretty when asked.
It was really a feat bringing you 3 out in the crowd. Next year will be 4 of you.
Hmmm... How will we cope? :)

31/12/2009 - YY's Last Day in Presch

Dear YY
31/12/09, the day you have been counting down towards has arrived. It was your last day in Preschool. It had been a short last week. You had wanted to reach school early at 7am on 30/12/09. Imagine your unhappiness when Mummy woke you up at 730am, cos both Papa and Mummy had overslept. You were sobbing in the bathroom as you showered. Your ever-doting Papa quickly brought you to school first.
31/12/09, this time Papa made sure you arrived in school early. You were the first one to reach at 7.10am. Mission accomplished.
Even though most of your K2 classmates had stopped attending lessons for the last few days/weeks already, you still insisted on going to school every day without fail. It was a good thing that your best friend, Ethan, was still your companion in school until the last day of 2009. You had feared losing contact with him and insisted that Mummy put in our home address in your gift to Ethan. Ethan must have felt the same way too, because on this last day, you received a handmade card from him bearing his address and contact number too. :P
Anyway, Mummy don't think we would lose contact with this little friend of yours yet, because his little brother is in our NN's Nursery class.

Er... How to tilt it uprite?

Sun Sand Swim

Dear YY n NN n DD
This sunday was all Sun, Sand and Swim for you 3.
Papa and Mummy brought you to the nearby Punggol Park for some sand and cycling time.
You had fun building sandcastles at the playground. No much chance for sand play in our urban city nowadays, unless you go to the beach.
DD, you were quite selfish in quickly packing all those shovels, scoops etc into the bucket and hiding them behind Mummy when a boy approached your sandpit. You even went up to him and said straight in his face, "No more for you". Gosh! And he was one head taller than you! Looks like we have to educate you more on sharing... :(
After lunch, Papa brought you 3 swimming at the pool downstairs.
Of course, it was sweet naptime after that for both you, NN and DD.
And peaceful time for Mummy and Papa as well... :)

Xmas 2009

Dear YY n NN n DD
We had a simple Xmas celebration this year.
A lot of Firsts this year.
First time Mummy bought a log cake.
First time we celebrated Xmas in our New House.
First time we brought a logcake outdoor to enjoy.
On Xmas eve night, Papa suggested that we find a cosy place downstairs to enjoy the cake. It was a great idea.
Under the stars, surrounded with the pool, you guys really had an enjoyable time "lazing" around on the sunning chairs.

Outdoor in the starry night.

Farmer, Fox, Bird and the Cookie Plus other stories with Tick, Tack, Tock

by ACT 3 Theatrics
Singapore
This is an Esplanade Presents programme.
Come for a fun and heartwarming time at this December’s PLAYtime! where little ones can learn about caring and sharing.
In this delightful tale, Farmer, Fox and Bird are quarrelling over one delicious Cookie. What will they do so that all of them will be able to eat the Cookie and be happy? Come, help them trust one another and be friends!
Children will also discover how a whole can be split into halves and quarters.
A little Sparrow is very thirsty and needs to raise the water level in a narrow jar so he can drink from it. What can he do? Come find out!

Dear YY, NN and DD
This is the 2nd time we went into the Esplanade Recital Studio for playtime! by Act 3.
DD, you had a very enjoyable time the last round we went for the Octoburst Playtime! Into The Deep Deep Forest - The Nicest Egg In the World, and you kept telling Papa about the eggs you saw during the play.
Similarly, you came out all of this play all excited and kept repeating to Papa about the Big Colorful Bird you saw. :P
There was a tiny episode though, which left you, YY and NN, quite worried for a minute or so.
Just before the show started, you 3 kids went to the performance area and started to play with the rest of the kids there. Despite Mummy's reminder to ask you 2 elder kids to take care of DD, you came back without DD by your side. When Mummy asked you where was DD, you 2 became very worried and went back to search for him. Even though Mummy later found our blur DD headed in the opposite direction searching for some familiar faces, Mummy decided to see how you 2 would re-act instead of immediately calling out to you 2. You had looked so guilty and sad when you failed to find DD, and were so relieved to see DD by Mummy's side.
Even though our dear DD had no idea what was going on, you 2 had learnt a lesson not to let DD out of your sight when instructed to.
Overall, it was a nice play that kept all 3 of you well entertained. Especially you, DD.

Didi Rhaines turn 2

Dear DD
It's your 2nd birthday and Papa and Mummy, together with your Korkor and JieJie, celebrated with you in school.
We brought you an Elmo Cake, your favorite cartoon character for now.
You were so proud of the cake and declared to everyone that it was Elmo Cake, and it was yours.
Your little celebration at CM started with the usual B-day ritual, in the presence of all your PreN 1 and 2 frens. Your little hands clasped around the little globe, you went 2x around the months of the year that were carefully lay on the floor by your teachers. Each round signifies each year of your life. Ms Lee also showed your little frens photos of you at 1 day old, and 1 yr old.
We proceeded to the dining area for your cake cutting after that. You really had an enjoyable time clapping hands as your frens sang your birthday song to you. :P
Thanks also to your teachers who celebrated this happy occasion with us. Your KorKor and JieJie also helped to distribute the cake to the little kids and teachers.
It was goodie bag distribution time after that.
The nite before, all 3 of you already had a very fun time packing goodies into those mickey mouse/ minnie mouse/ winnie the pooh backpacks. I guess sharing them with your frens were equally fun and meaningful too. :P

Papa and Mummy brought you home for rest before bringing you 3 out for some fun time at Downtown East Kids' Explorer, your favorite place of all time, in the evening. Even though it was for a mere one hour, you had a wonderful time. It was really quality play for you 3.
DD, It was too bad that the ferris wheel was not in operation that day. You kept pointing to it and wanting to go up. We would try the ferris wheel again on our next visit.

Happy Birthday, My Darling No 3.

Genting - KL Trip 7-10th Dec 2009

Dear YY n NN n DD
Mummy and Papa planned this short getaway just before YY's primary school start the following month.
After that, our travelling plans would have to be restricted to the school holidays schedule for at least the next 20 years. :(
YY, this is your 2nd trip to Genting. Mummy doubted you remembered your first trip as it happened when you were a mere 11th mth old baby then.
NN n DD, your first trip uphill. Actually it can also be considered DD's first overseas holiday trip, not counting those regular Yong Peng trips we made during CNYs.

We started our journey on a Sunday evening and spent the night at your 6th Grandaunt's House in Yong Peng.
It was another 5 hrs car ride the next morning before we reached Genting in the afternoon.
After unloading our luggages in the hotel, the first stop was to the indoor theme park. This place was real suitable for the 3 of you. The kiddy and family rides kept you very well entertained for the whole evening.
The next morning, after a buffet breakfast, we headed straight for the outdoor theme park. It was around 9am +.
YY, as soon as we entered the themepark, the first stop Papa led you to was the Spinner. Before Mummy had any chance to react, you and Papa were already seated in the individual dangling chairs. Did you know that throughout the whole thing, Mummy was cursing and swearing at Papa from the ground level as Mummy watched you being spun round and round with your eyes shut real tight and your hands clasped tightly around the chains that were supporting the chairs? You had looked so vunerable and small up there. Mummy dared to breathe only when the whole thing stopped spinning and your feet touched the ground. And Papa still have the cheek to ask Mummy what swear words Mummy used on him....
Papa had wanted to bring you on another thrill ride, The Flying Dragon, which Mummy didn't had the heart to watch from below. Hence Mummy brought NN and DD for some other kiddy rides while Papa brought you to Q. Maybe to your and his regret, that trill ride was closed temporarily for maintenance. Mummy really heaved a sign of relief....
We covered all the family and kiddy rides in the outdoor theme park, and went for 2nd and 3rd rounds for some. By then, it was already 8pm and was freezing cold outside.
We proceeded to the indoor theme park and queued up for more rides. It was almost midnite when we went back to our hotel room. A straight 14hrs ++ of fun. You guys sure can play!

The next stop was KL Sunway Resort. It was a struggle downhill as YY puked during the car-ride. You declared that you are not going up to Genting anymore unless via helicopter and you can parachute down. :P

As it was too late for us to visit Sunway Lagoon, we had a brief walk at the Mega Shopping Centre at our Sunway Resort hotel and joined your 5th Granduncle's family for steamboat dinner. They live just 10mins walk from Sunway Lagoon. :P
After dinner, we went to catch the seal and dolphin live show which had temporarily set tent at Sunway Resort.

The next morning was a trip to another themepark. This time it was the Sunway Lagoon WaterPark and Amusement Park. The Waterpark was similar to our own Wild Wild Wet at Downtown East which you visited just a week ago. You 3 had fun at both the Parks. It was a pity we had to leave by 3pm as we needed to rush back to Singapore.

Overall a fun but tiring trip.

Ryan's Big Day - The Graduation!

Dear YY
3rd Dec 2009 is your graduation concert from Character Montessori, held at the Theatrette in YCK Grassroot Club.
It was a combined concert for the graduates of Punggol CM, Pasir Ris CM and AMK CM.
Being the firstborn in our family, our whole family, including PoPo, Er Shu and San Shu, all turned up on that day to support you.
Once we reached the venue, you were led backstage for preparation, while the teachers ushered the rest of the family to the seating area.
The concert started with the presentation of the graduation certificates to the little graduates dowed in graduation gowns and mortar boards.
Mummy and Papa felt real proud to see our little boy match up to receive his little scroll.
The next event was real nice and thoughtful of the preschool. It was the parents' turn to be called onstage to receive a nice little gift handmade by our little grads.
Your K2 class logo is dolphin, which signifies kindness, and you have made a very nice pottery piece of dolphin for us.
We were actually bursting with pride and joy as we received this little dolphin piece from you.
We had a nice photoshoot with you in your gown onstage as a family, together with your DD and NN, after that.
Next was the string of performances by the little graduates.
You had a role in the Mandarin introduction to the audience just before the dolphin dance performance by your class. You were quite nervous onstage despite having practised your lines at home for a few days earlier. It was quite cute watching you and Wenxin doing the introduction.
After the individual performances came the grand finale.
It was really a night to remember for all proud parents of the little grads.
This marked the end of your preschool life and the start of formal education in another new setting.

PTA - Didi Rhaines (PreN 1 )

Dear DD
PTA after only 1 month of preschool may seem too short a time for review.
Your teacher, Fan Laoshi, assured us that you are settling very well in class now.
From the initial stage of crying every morning to the acceptance stage, you took a mere 2 weeks. Something which surprises Mummy. Your KorKor and JieJie had both taken a full one month previously when they first started preschool.

Comments from Fan Laoshi
You understand and follow instructions perfectly.
You are able to get customised to the routine quickly and know when is the time to play and when to concentrate.
Even though you can't speak well now, you are trying to sing along with your teacher, and are able to follow the actions of songs.

You will be promoted to PreN 2 next year after 2 months in PreN 1. Your teachers for next year will be Zhou Laoshi (your JieJie's PreN 2 teacher) and another new english teacher.

Hugs & Kisses
Mummy

Lately Mummy has been hearing you utter new words, stringing some words to form sentences at home and trying to sing some songs with actions to me as well. Good job. :P

PTA - Nicolle (PreN 2 Year)

Dear NN

You have been in CM for 2 years already.

Here were some comments from Zhou Laoshi and Lu Laoshi (Ms Lee, your english teacher, was not available)...

On Concentration & Attentiveness
Able to concentrate very well during lessons. One of the few in class who are able to recite songs and poems after one or two rounds by teachers. Zhou Laoshi commented that you have very good memory and asked Mummy whether it had anything to do with "Tai Jiao" or Shichida. Of course Mummy prefer to think it is the latter. :P

On Communiciation Skills
You can communicate very well and get all your points across sharp and short. You are able to relate incidents to teachers accurately too. A perfect class spy??? :P

On Social Skills and Sharing
You are very good friends with mostly the boys in your class, especially Nigel. The two of you have been good friends since you started full day last year.
However, you are still not able to share things generously and had been throwing tantrums for the last few days just before the PTA.
You can get very emotional when your friends say things which you don't like to hear. Zhou Laoshi quoted one eg whereby Mabel told you to drink more water. You started to get all teary and even told her that Mabel scolded you.

Mummy and Papa are not worried about your academical aspect yet. Furthermore, the teachers have all commented that you are very bright and pick up things effortlessly. However, we would like to focus more on your behaviour problems. You have not been co-operative at home and has been throwing tantrums at the slightest issue for a while already. Lately this problem has also surfaced in school.
Mummy would have to seek regular updates from your teachers to monitor.

Your teachers for the coming year will be Ms Lee, Ms Adeline and Zhuang Laoshi. Hope Ms Adeline and Zhuang Laoshi will be able to work wonders with you, like how they have educated your KorKor in his 3 yrs in CM.

Hugs & Kisses
Mummy
btw, you even had comments from Fan Laoshi (Didi's tr). She observed that you are a very bright girl.

Last PTA in CM Presch - Ryan

Dear YY

This would be our last PTA at CM Preschool before you embark on your primary school journey soon.

Here were some comments from Ms Adeline...

On Your Behaviour in School
You tend to turn very wild while playing with your friends. Good thing is, you are usually able to settle down quickly when the teachers remind you of your behaviour. However at times, you show signs of anger via actions rather than words. This is something that Ms Adeline is still working on with you. She also advised Mummy to constantly remind you on this issue when you enter Primary School as your new teachers may not be able to address to all the needs and behaviours of the big group of 30 students in class. One consolation is that, going by your height and size, you will most probably be sitting in the first two rows in your new class, under the watchful eyes of your new teacher. :)

On Maths
Academically well advanced in Maths. She showed us some exercises you had done in school. You are able to divide 4-digit figures by some 2-digit figures with the help of montessori tools and understand the meaning of reminders in this aspect. She had already highlighted to us earlier that you had no problem with your multiplication and division up to tens at all, and understood and could solve the problem sums perfectly.

On English and Reading and Spelling
Your handwriting has improved alot over these few months and spelling skills are in progress too. Frankly, your spelling skills is still one of Mummy's main concern now. She is aware that you have been reading alot at home, and advises us to encourage you to continue with this good habit.
(Many a morning, Mummy will spot you quietly reading a book at a corner while waiting for the rest of the family to get ready for school/work. This is a good sign and Mummy hope this will continue into your schooling years)

On Art
Impatient is the word that Ms Adeline used on you. You tend to rush through your art pieces, so that you have more time for other activities. Really a stark contrast compared to your Papa, who love Arts. :(
However, Mummy must say that you have alot of fun exposure in Arts at CM. Those clay pieces and chinese brush paintings that you brought home since Nursery Year are all evidences of these.

Some comments from Zhuang Laoshi...

On Chinese
You are able to concentrate very well in class and pick up new words effortlessly. However there was one incident whereby you had your answers to a chinese worksheet wrong while the rest of your classmates were correct. Zhuang Laoshi mentioned that the errors came about because you were not concentrating that particular lesson. You were so upset about the whole thing. It was a lesson learnt for you as you began to realise the importance of not getting too complacent in studies.

Overall, your teachers mentioned that you can be considered academically top in your class. Hence Mummy and Papa are quite pleased in your academical aspect. You are also very good friends with the two boys, Ethan and Marcel, in your class too. (Maybe a few years down the road, you may have already forgotten how close your friendships were. But right now, you are still hugging Ethan and telling each other how much you love each other.... :P)

This year spells the end of your preschool education. Mummy hopes that your following schooling years will be just as fun. It is hard to believe that My Little Eldest Boy is growing up so fast......

You must say a BIG Thank you to Ms Adeline and Zhuang Laoshi who have been your teachers for the past 2 and 3 years respectively.

Thank You also to your little classmates who have gone through all the fun and joy in school with you. Come to think of it, some of the little kids were the ones you see the minute you open your eyes from every weekday afternoon naps. :P
Ethan, Marcel, Wenxin, Calista, Luyi, Cheran.

Hugs & Kisses
Mummy

btw, Your Papa had that smirk look on his face when Ms Adeline expressed concern that we have just started bringing you for Maths enrichment at Numberlinks. Her comment was "Is it necessary for you?...."

Our 1st Live Xmas Tree - 2009

Dear YY n NN n DD
This would be our first xmas in our new house. Papa and Mummy decided to get a real live Xmas Tree from Ikea this year. This reason alone, of course, gave Mummy enough reason to shop from Disneystore Online for more Xmas Accessories this year. :P
You 3 really had fun setting up and decorating the Xmas Tree. However the rate it is shedding fir, Mummy really hope it won't become botak before Xmas comes......

Taekwondo for Ryan

Dear YY
Papa and Mummy started you on Taekwondo lessons at the nearby CC recently.
On one hand, we wanted you to have some sporting exposure other than the normal academic enrichments.
On the other hand, it pained us to see how the coach "rough handle" the new trainees.
Not that you were being abused physically during classes. But as Papa put it across, being "takan" in army terms.
Papa actually signed up for this course and had attended the first lesson with you. However his old injuries (or rather "newly founded" old injuries) in both wrist and leg prevented him from further participation.
We are in a dilemna now. While we would like to cultivate perservance in you, we feel that you are too young to be subjected to all these nonsensical treatment and be toughened up in this way.
Of course, you being the innocent you, when asked, just felt that the coach is strict, but also look forward to still continuing because you think Papa will be re-joining you soon.
We have until end of this course term to decide and take it from there.
Looks like Mummy has to start preparing mentally for your army days gradually.....

Dear YY n NN n DD
Papa, Er Shu, San Shu and Po Po brought you 3 to Escape Theme Park for some funtime.
YY, it shld be your 2nd or 3rd trip there, thanks to PoPo and Er Shu.
NN and DD, your first time there.
Mummy couldn't make it, but heard from Papa that you had tons of fun.
NN, Papa also commented that you are a super daring gal who dare to try out everything. :P

YY goes to Pri School!

Dear YY

20th Nov 2009 - Orientation Day at your new primary school, RSS. It was hard to believe that our little boy is growing up so fast. You met your future form teacher, principal, and little classmates on that day.
All pupils were seated on one side of the school hall according to classes while anxious parents made their way to the other side. You little guys were matched out of the hall class by class and given a guided tour around the school. Many parents looked on anxiously for their kids as the little boys and girls followed their form teachers out.
Your Papa remained cool and calm throughout the whole process, and even assured Mummy that was nothing to worry about. But did you know he left the school hall in the midst of the principal's speech on the pretext of going to the washroom and went around checking for your whereabouts..... :P
You should be one of the smallest size kids in your class. Looks like you should be sitting in the front rows.
You were all excited when we picked you up. You reported that your favorite place is the school canteen. :)

Really hope you will enjoy your new school in another 5 weeks in time.

Lilliput Golf - This time DD gets a club too!

Dear YY n NN n DD
It was another trip to Lilliput Golf, almost a year since your last visit.
YY, Papa and Mummy finally managed to bring you there again, a trip which was supposed to happen on your last birthday in September, but which didn't materialise as Papa had brought you there near to closing hours then. Papa told Mummy how disappointed you had been then.
DD, this time you were allocated your own club too! You had such great fun at the individual stations, together with your bro n sis.

Swimmy, Federick and INch by INch

From the performing company that brought you ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar & other Eric Carle Favourites’, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia returns with Leo Lionni’s exquisite collage of picture books! The three Caldecott Honor books, SWIMMY, FREDERICK & INCH BY INCH, are among Lionni’s most beloved works. Their images are strikingly beautiful, and their texts are whimsical yet wistful.

Swimmy is a tiny insignificant fish in the vast ocean who uses ingenuity to fend off danger. Frederick, a mouse who is a poet from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail, makes everyday life an artful experience. The story of Inch by Inch features a lovable inchworm who is very proud of his facility for measuring absolutely everything, including a robin’s tail, a flamingo’s necks, a toucan’s beak, a heron’s leg and a nightingale’s song.

Dear YY n NN n DD
Mummy's 1st attempt in bringing DD along for a play in theatre setting.
DD, you were quite unwilling to sit still and kept asking for Papa. It was an in-and-out-of-theatre tug of war with you for at least 20 minutes.
It was a good thing we went with Aunt Mich and Zavier as she helped to mind you 2 elder kids while Mummy brought DD out to look for Papa.
Not that you need any minding at all, YY. You were simply too engrossed , as usual.
NN, you didn't enjoy the show much, maybe bcos you were not familiar with the stories, and partly also bcos Mummy was not by your side the whole time.

Overall, quite an ill-prepared experience as Mummy has not exposed the 3 of you to Leo Lionni’s stories at all.

We went Funan for lunch after that, and you 3 had a much more fun time playing at the Wii Booth!. Of course this hi-tech gadget is still a NO NO in our family, until you 3 have learnt how to manage your time sensibly.
Mummy just hope that in time to come, you can appreciate what this means.....
