Dear YY
4th Jan 2010 marked the first day of your primary school life.
Typical of a well-adjusted and independent pre-schooler who took to school life very well, you did not appear nervous at all. It was Mummy and Papa who fretted and kept reminding you on what to do when you board the school bus, how to behave in class, and how to buy food during recess time.
Mummy took you to the designated pick up point for your school bus. You remembered Mummy's reminder to buckle up, and when the school bus came, you picked a seat behind the driver and tried to buckle up while Mummy talked to the bus driver. You actually panicked when you realised the safety belt was not working and started screaming "Mummy, safety belt is stuck!" I guess you were not that cool afterall on your first day of school. :)
Recess time, Mummy went to your school to peek at you. Must say that the highlight of your primary school life is having your own allowance to spend. You followed your classmates into the canteen, hand in hand with your Pri 2 buddy. Mummy lost sight of you in the canteen as there were just too many pupils and parents around. However, Mummy spotted you when you went Q-ing up for milo at the drinkstall. There and then, you proudly told Mummy that you still had some money left.
Evening time, you took the school bus home. However, the 1hr plus journey home was really too long. So long that Papa and Mummy decided to fetch you home from school every evening instead cos it would have been a 15-20min car ride only!
Once you reached home, you eagerly showed Mummy your wallet. But there was nothing in it! Not a single cent. You looked so shocked that for a minute, Mummy thot that you had dropped the remaining of your allowance. Then, my dear boy, you suddenly remembered you had spent your last few cents on a pack of tidbits!
To encourage you to save, Papa proposed a $1 to $1 top up for your savings, similar to our Govt CDA Scheme. Your eyes lighted up at this proposal. :)
5th Jan 2010
You took the school bus to school.
Recess-time, Papa and Mummy dropped by to see how you are coping. To our surprise, you were holding a lunch box containing food prepared by Grandma. Looked like you are in tune with Papa's savings proposal. :)
Of cos, you managed to save every single cent of your allowance that day.
In the following days to come, you would always come home with more than 2/3 of your allowance allocated as savings.
My dear boy, do enjoy your formal education life to the fullest!
